The CA Independent System Operator (CAISO) is a non-profit corporation chartered by the State of California to ensure the reliable and efficient operation of California’s electric transmission system and to facilitate an open-access market to the Bulk Electric System in California. The control center is responsible for the high-voltage lines for the grid serving 80% of California and a small part of Nevada. The ISO controls the routing of electrons by facilitating over 28,000 market transactions every day.
